Summer of dreams 1 framed in a floating frame in Tasmanian Oak. 32.5cm x 32.5cm
With deep blue and green hues, this work has an ethereal quality, with an ocean like feel. Abstract work featuring mark making in a beautiful veneer over a contrasting abstract landscape.
Part of a current body of work where the shapes of the banksia flower originally inspired the artist, in an obsessed focus on this tiny detail the layered veneer obscures the scene below. The artist has always had a keen interest in textiles, having been a fan of crafts including years of knitting, crochet and dressmaking, all of which have an influence on the look and feel of these abstract works.
The subliminal message of the series is how chaos can be obscured from direct sight and how a "veneer" can easily obscure the truth. Resulting in a seemingly textural work, full of movement, that it is hoped resonates with the viewer.
